Abstract | The project "Kalamata 1821: Roads of freedom" is being funded in the context of the Action "RESEARCH - CREATE - INNOVATE. The project, which encompasses original historic research work in the University of the Peloponnese, is an effort to narrate a historic course of 200 years for the city of Kalamata, from the eruption of the Greek revolution until today, through a modern and fresh perspective. This paper will present one of the digital applications developed within the project, and more specifically the Scavenger Hunt that is being developed by the Knowledge and Uncertainty lab of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications in Tripolis. The game is designed for mobile devices and its goal is to link the historic content of the project with the contemporary city and, in a gamified fashion, assist the user not only to familiarize with the history of the city but also to navigate in the city and connect with the local market. By searching through pictures of various locations of the city, the visitor is directed to the most outstanding locations of the war of independence, and learns about the contribution of the city of Kalamata in this turning point for the history of the Greek nation. At the same time, the visitor is rewarded by receiving offers for local stores. |
